As you know, the red setter is a "minority" breed in the United States. But, while we are fewer in numbers, our dogs certainly are not a minority in terms of their field trial ability. The red setter is always a contender when showing up at a trial, and our breed is highly respected among the field trialers of the United States. In the past 60 years since the inception of "The Purest Challenge" our breed has made extraordinary gains in quality of performance. The red setter Ch. Bearcat epitomizes this quality. He was an extraordinary bird dog, one who was almost uncanny in his ability to find birds, stay to the front, handle, and run. Even better, he passed those qualities on to his offspring, so that today we have generations of red setters throughout the United States who are competing in American Field and AKC bird dog trials who are exhibiting those same great traits.

Unfortunately, it takes money to spread the word about our accomplishments. There is absolutely no question... the red setter Bearcat has made an indelible mark on the red setter breed. He should be in the Hall of Fame because he dramatically improved the quality and performance of literally thousands of dogs who came after him.
